PRECAUTIONS FOR COVID-19/CORONA VIRUS

When I'm writing this article, Sri Lankan government had announced a death of a 60 years old man who were infected by COVID-19. As a responsible citizen, I have a responsibility to inform what I know about precautions.

  1. Stay home
  2. Don't eat more
  3. Exercise more
  4. Use a hair dryer  Click here for more information
  5. Drink hot water (Eg: Soup, Tea, Coffee the hottest you can handle for every 20 minutes )
    • This will help to destroy the viruses and bacteria in your throat. Acid in your stomach will do the rest.
  6.  If somehow the virus go into blood cells in your body, it will generates more virus clones. In order to kill the virus from this stage you can directly take Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc tablets or eat vegetables which are concentrated with these vitamins as these vitamins helps to improve the immunity system of your body.
  7. Gurgle with salt water twice a day one in the morning and one in the night. When you gurgle try to gurgle for at least 1 minute, 10-20 minute a time and don't swallow it. This will help to kill(Virus and bacteria) and clean your throat.
  8.  As we know the virus has incubation period of 2 to 5 days in the nose or in the throat. If you successfully kill it it never would attack  and you never will be sick.
  9. If the virus had attacked you, your throat will be sored and hurt. You won't be able to breath well and you'll lose your smell and the taste.
  10. If you got these symptoms, immediately go to a hospital and tell them that you're sick. Use gloves and face mask during the riding period.

PROJECT RECOVER

On 14th of March the Rotract District 3220 organized a coastal area cleaning project collobrating with Green Map Sri Lanka on Crow Island Beach Park  from 6.30 a.m. onwards. I , as a member of Rotract club of SLIIT, participated with another 2 senior members for the event. There were around 50 rotractors participated for this event and they were from different universities.
Location - (https://goo.gl/maps/GdB1ANuMuQcVmfAx5)

                        In the morning they educated us by telling the importance of cleaning the ocean and coastal area. As it is a tedious task to clean the ocean and our main goal was to give the idea of cleaning sea side, we didn't clean the ocean. But there was a team with scuba kits which were hired by Green Map Sri Lanka. So, we started  cleaning coastal side at 8:00 a.m. We were given litter bags. There were 4 colours of litter bags.  They were ;

  1. Green (For collect biological wastage; such as syringes, cottons, gauzes and so on)
  2. Yellow (Paper items)
  3. Blue (Polythene materials)
  4. Black (Metal and glass items)

Everybody has to group in to two member groups. My partner was an Rotract Alumni member and his name was Anju. We volunteered to collect glasses and metal wastage. As it was a risky task we used a special gloves. Fortunately, I wore a pair of shoes, it got me covered by broken glasses.

In the end I and my partner collected 3 litter bags. Each of them were weighed  approximately 10 kilos. Actually, it was such a great experience. This event taught me a lesson; as citizens of Sri Lanka , all of us have a great responsibility to protect the  environment. This message only delivered to around 50 people on that day. But there are 20 million people in Sri Lanka. If everyone on that day has 4 family members in their family, 250 people got the idea which we are gonna spread. But it's not enough. So we are continuing these projects and our goal is to make the next generation aware about the importance of keep the environment clean.

ANTI-DENGUE PROGRAM

Today is 29th February of 2020. As members of Rotract Club of SLIIT , we had to do our first project regarding Dengue. First of all we gathered to SLIIT sharp at 8:00 a.m.
So, I went there at 7:20 a.m. as my first rule is Punctuality. At about 8:15 we were left to Walgama Municipal Council and  met the Public Health Inspector, Mr: C.S. Indipolage who conducted the session. He told us there are 4 types of Dengue mosquito species and that caused too many deads in all over Sri Lanka. This mosquito can resist eventually to the antibiotics as his DNAs can change rapidly.

Then our 16 member group divided in to 8 sub groups and each of them contains with  2 members. They gave 1 Dengue Control Unit(DCU) member for each sub group
and with them, we had to go to a certain route and visit every house on that route and find any kind of places which can be a birthplace for another thousands of mosquitoes. Then we had to give them warnings to take immediate actions. My team went 20 houses within the time frame. We filled a detailed report sheet but I forgot to take a snapshot.

Finally, we submitted it to Mr: C.S. Indipolage at about 12:15 p.m. and came back to home. I saw the faces of the people, when we said, "We are from DCU and we are checking your surrounding." They were scared. But they shouldn't. Because, they don't have to do master projects. They only thing they have to do is cleaning the surrounding. It's not that hard. If they did it before DCU members come to visit their places, they don't have to get scared. However, we should clean our surroundings, in order to prevent from Dengue. This was a great experience and wonderful day for us.

------THANKS ROTRACT FOR GIVING A CHANCE TO GET THIS EXPERIENCE-----
